Back Injury Prevention and Safe Lifting Techniques
Course Details
In 2016, back injuries accounted for 38.5% of all musculoskeletal disorder cases resulting in days away from work. Back injuries affect many workers, especially in jobs that involve lifting, repetitive motion, vibration or awkward postures. If you’ve ever suffered a back injury, you know they can be painful and debilitating. That’s why back injury prevention training is vital to success, productivity and safety in the workplace.
Hazmat School’s Back Injury Prevention and Safe Lifting Techniques is an interactive online safety course that offers training on safe work practices, pre-lift considerations, proper lift technique and helpful exercises that you can perform to avoid back injuries. Open to anyone interested in preventing back injuries, this short course is taught entirely online through an engaging PowerPoint with audio and video.
What Regulations Does This Course Satisfy?
The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) does not specifically require employers to provide back injury prevention training. However, under the Occupational Safety and Health Act’s General Duty Clause, Section 5(a)(1), employers do have an obligation to keep the workplace free from serious recognized hazards, including ergonomic hazards that could lead to a back injury.
In addition to altering workflow and minimizing weight to be lifted, general industry businesses can reduce ergonomic hazards and remain in compliance with the General Duty Clause by training all workers on proper lifting technique and back injury prevention.
