Not only does this course fulfill your OSHA
annual Hazardous Waste Refresher (HAZWOPER) training requirement under 29 CFR
1910.120, it also gives you information that is applicable to what you do.
When you choose this Refresher, you satisfy not only the requirement for your
annual Refresher course but also the requirements under 29 CFR 1910.146
for workers whose work requires them to enter Permit
Required Confined Spaces.
The course addresses the requirements of both OSHA regulations and can serve as either your initial or refresher course for your Permit Required Confined Space Operations course. While a discussion of confined space activities is a required element of every Hazwoper program, this course takes that discussion to the next level. By taking this course you will know the nature of confined spaces, know the responsibilities of those whose job places them into these types of activities, and will be able to show how to safely work as part of a Permit Required Confined Space Entry Operation.
WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS CLASS?
Everyone who has taken the 24- or 40- hour OSHA Hazwoper course is required to take an eight-hour annual refresher course. Our course has been designed for workers in the wastewater treatment field. This self-paced program is full of interactive exercises and activities to help you meet that OSHA requirement, with the ability to take it as time permits.
Additionally, because this course has the emphasis on Confined Space Safety, those whose work involves potential occupational exposure to permit required confined spaces will receive the most up-to-date and relevant materials related to these hazards.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:

| 1. | Understand the various training regulations relating to hazardous materials handling and response. |
| 2. | Demonstrate knowledge of the types of hazardous materials and the various hazards and risks associated with them. |
| 3. | Demonstrate knowledge of the routes of entry for hazardous materials to enter the body. |
| 4. | Demonstrate an understanding of the health effects that hazardous materials can have on the body. |
| 5. | Demonstrate an understanding of the terminology used in describing hazardous materials including vapor density, specific gravity, miscibility/solubility, carcinogen, teratogen, mutagen, pH, PPM, TLV, IDLH, flammable/explosive range, combustible, flammable, flash point, and ignition temperature. |
| 6. | Demonstrate an understanding of the primary identification systems including the Department of Transportation (DOT) system, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 704 system, and Hazardous Materials Information System (HMIS). |
| 7. | Understand the need for personal protective equipment when using hazardous materials. |
| 8. | Demonstrate an understanding of the need for respiratory equipment and of the advantages and disadvantages to the types of respiratory equipment. |

| 1. | Be able to identify what types of areas are confined spaces, including permit-required confined spaces and non-permit spaces, and to define each term. |
| 2. | Identify the hazards commonly found in confined spaces, including atmospheric hazards and physical hazards. |
| 3. | Identify the roles and responsibilities of the Entrant and Attendant as defined by OSHA for various personnel during confined space operations. |
| 4. | Understand the use and need for a confined space permit. |
| 5. | Understand basic emergency activities during a confined space emergency, including the hierarchy of rescue. |
| 6. | Provide an opportunity for interactive questions and answers with the person conducting the training. 1910.1030(g)(2)(vii)(N) |
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Students will complete 15 self-paced lessons, review questions at the end of each section, and a final test via electronic format. You will need a computer with Internet access and an email account. No text is required; all course materials are available online. The course will take approximately 8 hours to complete. Upon registration, you will receive a password via email, giving you access to the course contents at http://classes.hazmatschool.com/.
GRADING POLICY
Passing this course requires completing end-of-section review questions and completing the final test with a grade of 75% or better. There is no passing grade required for review questions. If you do not receive a grade of at least 75% on the final quiz, you may retake the quiz up to a total of three (3) times.
COURSE SCHEDULE AND DEADLINES
The course is designed to be self-paced. You may stay enrolled in this eight-hour class for up to two months. After two months, you will need to re-enroll. Upon successful completion of the course, we will verify your work, and you will receive a certificate via email.
