This OSHA Hazwoper Refresher for Wastewater Treatment Personnel, #1196, has industry specific content, new material and fresh images.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS CLASS?

Everyone who has taken the 24- or 40- hour OSHA Hazwoper course is required to take an eight-hour annual refresher course. Our course has been designed for workers in the wastewater treatment field. This self-paced program is full of interactive exercises and activities to help you meet that OSHA requirement, with the ability to take it as time permits.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

This program meets the competencies outlined in the OSHA regulation.

  1. Meet the requirements for certification of 29 CFR, Part 1910.120, or other applicable state regulations for certification in hazardous materials/waste worker.
  2. Understand the various training regulations relating to hazardous materials handling and response.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of the types of hazardous materials and the various hazards and risks associated with them.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of the routes of entry for hazardous materials to enter the body.
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of the health effects that hazardous materials can have on the body.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of the terminology used in describing hazardous materials including vapor density, specific gravity, miscibility/solubility, carcinogen, teratogen, mutagen, pH, PPM, TLV, IDLH, flammable/explosive range, combustible, flammable, flash point, and ignition temperature.
  7. Demonstrate an understanding of the primary identification systems including the Department of Transportation (DOT) system, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 704 system, and Hazardous Materials Information System (HMIS).
  8. Understand the need for personal protective equipment when using hazardous materials.
  9. Demonstrate an understanding of the need for respiratory equipment and of the advantages and disadvantages to the types of respiratory equipment.
  10. The background and need of sewage treatment plants.
  11. The type of protective equipment required and available to the sewage plant worker.
  12. How the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) relate to wasteworker safety.
  13. Tips for manhole lifting and access.
  14. The hazards of toxic gases found in sewage treatment plants, including hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen cyanide, chlorine, and carbon monoxide.
  15. The hazards of flammable gases found in sewage collection systems, such as methane, diesel, and gasoline.
  16. The basics of confined space awareness.
  17. The hazards posed by infectious agents to wastewater workers.
  18. Types of safety equipment available to wastewater workers.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Students will complete 13 self-paced modules, review questions at the end of modules, and a final test via electronic format. All course materials are available online. The course will take approximately 8 hours to complete. Upon registration, you will receive a password via email, giving you access to the course contents at http://classes.hazmatschool.com/.

What do you need to take this class at Hazmat School?

GRADING POLICY

Passing this course requires completing 40 end-of-section review questions and completing the final test with a grade of  75% or better. There is no passing grade required for review questions. If you do not receive a grade of at least 75% on the final quiz, you may retake the quiz up to a total of three (3) times.

COURSE SCHEDULE AND DEADLINES

The course is designed to be self-paced. You may stay enrolled in this eight-hour class for up to two months. After two months, you will need to re-enroll. Upon successful completion of the course and the final exam, click on the Send Certificate button, fill out the form, we will verify your work, and you will receive a certificate and 0.8 CEUs.
