This course is best suited for the following individuals:

  • General industry, construction industry and maritime workers;
  • Maintenance or custodial employees that work in a building or on a ship that contains ACMs;
  • A construction manager, engineer or tradesman that works in pre-1981 buildings or buildings with known ACMs;
  • Supervisors or administrative staff that work in schools or other buildings with ACMs;
  • Property or apartment managers that own or manage pre-1981 buildings or buildings with known ACMs;
  • Current or prospective homeowners that are seeking knowledge about asbestos;
  • Anyone who wants a base knowledge about asbestos.

This program is self-paced and has interactive exercises and quizzes to meet the OSHA and AHERA training requirements. Complete your training obligation in your spare time and receive a certificate.

Through the availability of interaction with our Remote Instructor™ via the internet, you will be able to discuss site-specific topics and/or other issues which relate to your particular involvement with asbestos. Your class home page and each course module has a point-and-click button where you may send questions via email to the instructor.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this Asbestos Awareness Training Course, you should know:

  1. What asbestos is, where it comes from and why it has been used so much.
  2. The potential health effects of asbestos.
  3. Where asbestos containing materials (ACM) and potential asbestos containing materials (PACM) are commonly found.
  4. Proper precautions and work practices when working around asbestos.
  5. How to recognize asbestos hazards due to damage or deterioration.
  6. Appropriate response to an asbestos fiber release.
  7. What OSHA regulations apply to workers who work with or work around asbestos and what aspects of those regulations affect you or your company

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Students will complete 6 self-paced lessons, review questions at the end of some chapters, and take a final test via electronic format. All course materials are available online. The course will take approximately 2 hours to complete with 30 minutes for the Final Quiz. Upon registration, you will receive a password via email, giving you access to the course contents at http://classes.hazmatschool.com/ .

What do you need to take this class at Hazmat School?

Prerequisites: None.

GRADING POLICY

Passing this course requires completing end-of-section review questions and completing the final multiple-choice test with a grade of  75% or better. There is no passing grade required for review questions but you must answer and submit them. If you do not receive a grade of at least 75% on the final quiz, you may take the quiz again up to a total of two (2) times.

COURSE SCHEDULE AND DEADLINES

The course is designed to be self-paced. You may stay enrolled in this two-hour class for up to one month. After one month, you will need to re-enroll. Upon successful completion of the course, click on the Send Certificate button and fill out the form. After we verify your work, you will receive a certificate as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file via email. You will need the FREE Acrobat plugin to print out your certificate. If you do not have one, you may download your plugin here.
